HUGS Is Born

Today was an exciting day, one of my dearest dreams has come true.  I will be co-founding a mentoring program for girls.  We’ve decided on the name HUGS (Helping Unforgettable Girls Succeed).  The administration at the pilot school of our choice was very excited about our plans and enthusiasm. We will be working with children in grade 3-5, very impressionable years.  The school would like for us to be there year round for the girls.  This would allow us to be a presence in their lives with no void in time, which could have an adverse effect on everything we’re trying to do.  Our plan is to follow them until the graduate high school.  With the hope that they become successful and want to give back in the same way they were help…Volunteerism.  I’m overjoyed by the opportunity and job upon me.  There is no other feeling like giving back.

Our girls are the forgotten population among us.  There are so many programs that focus on boys and young men, that we tend to rationalize that the girls will be okay inherently.  We’re taking this chance to grab these young ladies up, and guide them though the next phase of life.  The basic goals of the organization build confidence, teach etiquette, cultural exposure and being those listening ears that some of them need.  As I’ve told you before, this has been a dream of mind for a decade now.  I’m still in a little amazement that it’s really happening. 🙂

There are so many ideas running through my head right now, I can’t see straight from smiling.  First off, I need to come up with this logo design.  I’ll run a few options by you to see what you think.  Soooooo, excited right now.  If there are any of you that would like to help as mentors, suggest activities or just offer words of encouragement.  Please feel free to do so.

These are the 2 of the final choices.
